Programme Intended Learning Outcome

Upon successful completion of this programme, students will be able to:

  • Evaluate legal ideas, systems and processes as well as legal issues that impact government, business and personal decisions;
  • Relate social science theories and concepts to the study of law;
  • Relate major ideas in arts and humanities, science and technology to socio-legal studies;
  • Analyze and synthesize complex information including case laws, legislations and legal arguments in an organized and logical manner;
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing; and
  • Conduct academic research effectively.

Further Studies Pathways

This programme has been offered since 2017-18. Articulation possibilities may include Social Science and Business related degree programmes in City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong and the University of Hong Kong.


Career Prospects

Graduates in this programme are competent to work in junior-level management positions in various fields, including human resources, business and management, media, health care, customer services, social service, and so forth.


Main Subject Areas

The Legal Studies programme aims to provide students with knowledge about law and the fundamentals of legal system, equip students with competence to identify, interpret and integrate legal and social science knowledge, and apply them intelligently to practical problems.

In Year One, students study the following foundational social science courses, general education courses and courses about law basics:

  • Sociology
  • Introduction to Political Studies
  • Introduction to Psychology
  • Critical Thinking
  • Ethics and Society
  • Social Research
  • Basics of Law
  • Introduction to Legal System
  • Fundamentals of Business Law
In Year Two, students take core law courses, some more general education courses and an integrative project:
  • Constitutional and Administrative Law
  • Crime and Criminal Law
  • Legal Procedure
  • Legal Research and Writing
  • Corporate Regulations and Practice
  • Law, Rights and Community
  • Integrative Project

General Education Courses

Four courses to be chosen from all of the following domains:

  • Arts and Humanities
  • Science and Technology
  • Society and Organisations
